Marketing & Sales — The chicken or the egg
Well, in my world there are two categories of marketers: the ones who just teach marketing but have never sold lately except their courses, and the ones who are doing marketing & live from the sales generated by their efforts. Somehow, I was always forced to be part of the second tribe. So any marketing stuff has to have a sales equivalent so we can track effectively what we are doing.
Marketing has to become a habit exactly like when going to the bathroom in the morning (no joke). Do a very simple exercise, and think about how much time you are devoting daily to marketing and sales. You may have an unpleasant surprise, and realize that you spend a lot of time on things that are less important for growing your business.
In most cases, people don’t realize until it is too late the fact that their business can’t survive without constant marketing accompanied by a lot of sales. I encounter many founders which are only focused on how much money do they want to raise from investors, without really caring about how much sales their startup will produce during the next 12 months. And this is very bad, and can hurt you like crazy, and put your project in a knock-out state.
